After a decade working on bespoke commercial and privately commissioned projects, Anthesis is the first show of Kathryn Lang’s new grand scale floral paintings.
The Regency townhouse, with its light, height, and grandeur is the perfect space to immerse the viewer in the display of larger-than-life painting. A culmination of a two-year project nurturing her garden for source material.
This project unfurled a multitude of new directions, each a garden path of exploring botanicals, their symbolism and function.
Regency Townhouse, 13 Brunswick Square, Hove, BN3 1EH
Exhibition runs 1st – 6th November open 11am – 5pm
Evening drinks night 3rd November 6-9pm
“Over the years I have always returned to flowers without really questioning it. They are beautiful, and challenging, much like portraiture there is a moment to capture, but they offer an opportunity to explode some colour too.
This time was different though, the sanctuaries of both the studio and the garden held enormous importance in a world that had shifted on its axis.
Cultivating the garden led to growing flowers, herbs and vegetables. This propagated a journey of learning more about nutrition and herbalism. The dahlias are the showstoppers, but now could be peppered with dandelion, echinacea, eucalyptus, calendula, passionflower and chamomile. Nature in a pure form, untampered with, showing the very best of itself that it can.”
